Hockessin, Del.
- Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) is pleased to announce a
new interactive tool on the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters® consumer
website, www.FruitsandVeggiesMoreMatters.org.
The new Fruit & Veggie Happenings page debuts as part of the celebration
plans for September, Fruits & Veggies-More Matters month. This interactive
exchange page allows everyone to upload information on fruit and veggie
related activities, promotions, contests and events to help extend your
consumer marketing or education efforts. Photos, PDF's and information
about the same event or activity occurring at multiple locations can also
be uploaded making it very easy and convenient to populate the new interactive
tool. Visit
the Fruit & Veggie Happenings page today to see how easy it is
to populate this new page with fruit and veggie news, events, and activities.
"We hope
to see uploads to the Fruit & Veggie Happenings page from our full
spectrum of stakeholders," said Elizabeth Pivonka, Ph.D., R.D., President
and CEO of PBH. "Growers can post farm tours, shippers and processors
can announce contests and special promotions, health departments and WIC
educators can list events and cooking classes, school foodservice directors
can announce a new school salad bar, teachers can highlight classroom
supermarket tours, restaurants can feature new fruit and veggie menu items,
commodity boards can promote their fruit or veggie festivals, and supermarkets
can provide information about upcoming store tours, cooking classes, or
in-store promotions -- the possibilities are literally endless! What better
time to begin promoting events like these directly to consumers than Fruits
& Veggies-More Matters Month?"
Consumers will
be able to use the Fruit & Veggie Happenings page interactive tool
to type in their zip code, and see what fruit and vegetable activities
and events are occurring in their local community. Consumers can also
use the interactive tool to share activities occurring in their area.
Information on how schools can add fruit and vegetable vending machines
and salad bars to lunchrooms, a list of schools involved in the Fresh
Fruit and Vegetable Program, and those schools that have met the HealthierUS
School Challenge, and other fruit and veggie related information will
also be featured.
The Fruit &
Veggie Happenings page serves as an additional resource in support of
the America's More Matters Pledge: Fruits & Veggies . . . Today and
Every Day! campaign, developed by PBH in support of first lady Michelle
Obama's Let's Move childhood obesity initiative. The pledge campaign officially
kicks off in September during Fruits & Veggies-More Matters Month
and will be ongoing.
Three versions
of the America's More Matters Pledge: Fruits & Veggies . . . Today
and Every Day! marketing toolkit are available online to help the fruit
and vegetable industry, educators, and health professionals promote their
related activities. Visit
the Fruit & Veggie Happenings page and America's
More Matters Pledge. Click through to view over 50 resources in the
online retail
